Get your motor runnin'

Submitted by Heather Reese on Friday, September 25th, 03:15pm

What's up with all the bikers at the Mukilteo ferry?

"Bikers Fighting Cancer," a motorcycle club based in Bellingham, will be riding through town Saturday to raise money for kids with cancer.

So if you see a bunch of bikes...give 'em a cheer!

Save our Gulch

Submitted by Heather Reese on Tuesday, September 15th, 01:45pm

The group determined to keep the Japanese Gulch as a public park is holding an open house tonight from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Mukilteo City Hall.

"The amount of green space in the Puget Sound diminishes daily," said Debby McGehee with the Japanese Gulch Group. "We need to work to preserve what we still have."

McGehee says the group's ultimate goal is to purchase the property that borders Mukilteo and Everett with public funding.

But there could be a time crunch.

McGehee says a development company has submitted a plan to build a huge warehouse and office development in Japanese Gulch.

"(The Gulch) has been used as a park by the public for more than 80 years now," McGehee said. "I walk there now...and I want to make sure people can walk there 20 years from now."

You can learn more about the options for public funding at tonight's meeting.

What's with the smell?

Submitted by Heather Reese on Monday, September 14th, 02:30pm

Did you get a whiff of gas around your lunch hour?

A neighbor did. They told us about it - so we checked it out!

Mukilteo Fire confirms there was a gas leak in the 5100 block of 92nd street this afternoon. They tell me an outside gas line was fractured and that Snohomish County PUD was working out there at the time of the leak.

At this time, the leak is under control. There's no danger further to you...or your nose.

Heading to the ferry? Parking is at a premium near the dock

Submitted by Ray Marcham on Saturday, September 12th, 01:54pm

While the Lighthouse Festival is bringing fun and plenty of people to the Mukilteo waterfront, ferry travelers are having a tougher time than usual this weekend.

The parking that's usually available for ferry riders at Lighthouse Park is not available due to the festival.  The park's parking lot is closed to ferry travelers through Sunday.

Plus, there's a two-hour wait for vehicles waiting to cross to Clinton.  Not the best of weekends for ferry travelers heading to Whidbey Island.

Beautiful start to the Festival...

Submitted by Heather Reese on Friday, September 11th, 12:44pm

Organizers of the Mukilteo Lighthouse Festival are thanking the weather gods!

They tell me set up is going smoothly this morning at Lighthouse Park.

I'll let PR Chair Terry Preshaw give you a play-by-play of what's going on in the above picture:

"To the far left, around the railway curve, the Avenue of Festival Food is being set-up.  In the middle of the image are the Artists Booths.

In progress is the Mukilteo Chamber of Commerce Beer Garden and closer to beach (but not visible here) is the huge Family Entertainment site.

Next to the Lighthouse you can see the VIP tent where Mukilteo Lighthouse Festival Sponsors will gather to enjoy a fine meal catered by Arnies and the explosive fireworks show put on by Port Gardner Bay Fireworks and Island Tug."

Looks like it's gonna be a great year! The festival opens at 3 p.m. today and lasts through Sunday.

Lighthouse Fest starts Friday!

Submitted by Heather Reese on Thursday, September 10th, 11:16am

The anticipation is building!

Folks in charge of the Lighthouse Festival tell me they'll start setting up at the park tomorrow morning. The festival opens at 3 p.m. Friday and goes until Sunday at 5 p.m.

Just a reminder, there will be no parking allowed at Mukilteo Lighthouse Park this weekend. Check the shuttle schedule for pick-up locations.

No holiday for the ferry; normal schedule on Monday

Submitted by Ray Marcham on Sunday, September 6th, 01:06pm

It'll be business as normal on Monday, as the Mukilteo-Clinton ferry will be on the usual weekday schedule.

That means the Cathlamet and the Kittitas will be shuttling back and forth every half hour for most of Labor Day, much like a normal work day.  Of course, that won't make the waits any better, but it'll be going normal.

Knights, Maurauders opening up 2009 season tonight

Submitted by Ray Marcham on Friday, September 4th, 10:59am

It's opening night for the 2009 football season, and while the Kamiak Knights start in the friendly confines of Goddard Stadium, the Mariner Marauders hop on the bus to open on the road.

Kamiak will play Snohomish in a WesCo cross-divisional game at Goddard at 7 p.m..  It's the first of two straight home games for the Bruins.

Mariner gets to travel to Lake Stevens in another WesCo cross-divisional game to open their season.  Of course, since Kamiak has Goddard Stadium for the first two weeks, that means the Marauders will be on the road for the first two games.

The Marauders play their first game at Goddard Stadium on September 18, when they host Cascade.
